If you
would like to join any of these groups then email the co-ordinators.
If you would like to start a new group - for example Human Rights
or Education and Culture then please let us know.
Activities
We will be developing
a number of activities within the Enfield United Nations Association.
How successful we are in achieving this will depend on volunteers to
help. If you are interested in any of these activities then please let
us know. The activities that we are interested in are,
Developing MP Watch - an online experiment in digital democracy where
we ask questions of our MP's and publish their replies on the Internet
and through an email mailing list. The MP Watch pages will be linked
to discussion forums and online petitions so that people can follow
up on the answers given and engage MP's and local Councillors in discussion
as well as initiate campaigns. We may eventually add Internet Radio
to these pages so that we can interview MP's and others about their
answers.
Holding regular meetings where speakers will be invited to develop
a specific theme and engage in discussion with those there.
Making links with local schools to encourage them in ensuring that
the UN is discussed with students. We may hold meetings with schools
and even develop some online material for use by schools.
Working with voluntary groups to develop joint activities and to develop
an awareness of the importance of genuine and multilateral internationalism.
Develop
a list of people who although not yet members are kept on a mailing
list as "friends of the UN" so as to provide them
with information about activities and events.
