Bridgwater Grammar School For Girls

Welcome to The Site

This site is for former pupils and staff of Dr Morgan's Grammar School and Bridgwater Grammar School for Girls.

Grammar schools and particularly those we attended produce a complex set of emotions that are not always easy to explain. They were the playing fields of our youth - the place where we made friends and experimented with the world. It is here where we often experienced our first love or learnt through gossip and text the facts of life. Here was the theatre where we often made our first clumsy sexual contacts and learnt the joy of intimacy and the pain of rejection as well. It was here where we also learnt the immensity of human kindness and also the despair of human cruelty often in the space of a short time.

Most of us went to Grammar schools at a time when the world was fast changing. Some looked upon the Grammar school as a bastion that somehow protected us from change and imbued us with eternal values of Englishness that had always passed the test of time. Others felt that the Grammar school was an anachronism that buried its head as the world sped by - ill equipping us for a modern technological and cosmopolitan future.

For better or for worse, these schools profoundly affected our lives and have helped shape our personalities and partly made us what we are today. Whatever we feel about Grammar schools, they are a part of us all. This site is here to help us remember those times when the world seemed all so different and by exploring that past help us, just a little, to find what we are and where we are today.

We have a Guest Book on the Site that we hope you will sign. We would also welcome comments on what you think of the Site and how it could be developed. We also have a Notice Board on the site where you can leave messages, memories or try to contact others.

This Web Site depends on past pupils, and indeed staff, sending information that we can add to the Site. That information can be memories, photgraphs or records. The more information we get, the more this Site can become an archive of our past - a past that is still very much about our present.

We hope you enjoy the Site.
