10th Bridgwater Guide Company This Company was based in the Girls Grammar School. In 1933 staff members were responsible for the Guides. Miss RUSBRIDGE was Guide Captain (10th Bridgwater Guide Company) and Miss MUSGROVE was Cadet Ranger Captain. In 1936 Miss LANGRISH was Guide Captain. Here is an extract from the BGSG School Magazine Chevron in 1933. As the
flames point upward, This has been the third year in the life of our Guide Company, and its most important event has been the dedication of our Company and King's Colours on November 25th, 1932. The service was held in St. Mary's Church at 6 p.m., and was conducted by the Rev. E. H. Hughes-Davies. The Cadet Rangers also had their Colours dedicated at this service. In the Spring Term our Captain, Miss Rusbridge, was taken ill and the Company was run by Marjorie Young, our acting Lieutenant. With the expert coaching of Kathleen Barnett, an old girl, and Mr. Farrance of the Scouts, Marjorie did much towards the training of the signalling squad for the County Compassion in which, to our great delight, the squad won the Silver Vase, which we shall hold until next year. We had a Patrol Competition in the Autumn and Spring Terms, the Trophy, a bronze statuette, being won by the Own Patrol. In the course of the year eighty-one badges have been gained by members of the Company. Eight of these were Second Class badges. Verna Turner and Marjorie Body are now First Class Guides with blue-and-white All-Round Cords, while Minnie Talbot has her First Class badge and a mauve All_Round Cord. As several Guides left at the end of the Summer Term we have been able to admit three recruits. We were very
sorry to lose our Captain at the end of the last term, but we wish her
the best of luck in the future. We extend a very hearty welcome to Miss
Claughton who, when she has qualified, will be our Captain. We are grateful
to Miss Musgrove who is running both the Guide Company and the Rangers
this term. |
